The just-released new 2013 Ford Fusion Energi couldn’t be called inexpensive, but thanks to a solid electric-only drive range and good fuel efficiency, Ford’s latest plug-in hybrid sedan still makes a good value proposition for those with a heavy commute.
Starting with the expertly styled and spacious new Fusion midsize, Ford adds a plug-in hybrid system featuring a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder plus electric motor and eCVT automatic transmission, drawing power from a 7.6-kWH lithium-ion battery pack. The system outputs 195 max horsepower for ample power delivery as the fuel savings start to add up.

Hyundai has completely revamped its Hybrid Blue Drive gas-electric system found in the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid midsize sedan, bringing better fuel efficiency, longer periods of electric-only cruising, and even more trunk space.
The Sonata Hybrid now receives EPA-estimated fuel efficiency ratings of 36 mpg in the city, 40 mpg on the highway and 38 mpg combined (37 combined in the Limited). If you’re counting, that’s an increase of 2 combined mpg over the outgoing 2012 car’s 34 city/39 highway/36 combined rating.

The Toyota Camry was once again the best-selling passenger car in the United States in 2012, just as it has been for 14 of the last 15 years, but that hasn’t stopped Toyota from responding to buyer feedback with a host of small changes to make the top-selling midsize even better.
Focusing mostly on the interior, Toyota has improved material quality and added feature content in an effort to stay on top in a midsize segment now filled with a dizzying array of fine choices.

This news comes just a couple of weeks after Chevy slashed Malibu pricing across the board, making the midsize sedan a true value buy right now in a field chock full of worthy competitors.

The Chevrolet Malibu was completely redesigned for the 2013 model year, but with so many appealing new midsize family sedans on the market, sales have underperformed expectations. Chevrolet has responded with very welcome price cuts at each and every trim level, effective immediately.
The price slashing ranges from $300 to $770 depending on trim level. The base Malibu LS receives a price drop of $345 to now start at $21,995 (plus destination), or among the segment’s value leaders. Looking to the top of the range, the luxurious Malibu 2LTZ now starts at $29,700 with a cut of $415. Chevy has, however, raised destination fees from $760 to $810, which will eat into the savings a little.
