So, you want something with rock-solid reliability that will cost you pennies to own and operate. You also want it to be comfortable, nimble, and fun. For the more performance-minded consumer, the 197-hp Civic Si can be had for around $21,000. The Si is also available in an equally-powerful sedan form, as well. Take one look at the Civic, and we’re sure you’ll agree that it looks sharper than anything in its price range, with tightly-gapped body paneling and an ergonomic interior that fits the driver like a glove.

Honda is known for their engines; and with more than 14 million engines built each year, they are the largest engine-maker in the world. That’s not to say you’re getting some run-of-the-mill inline four with your Civic. Each version that we’ve test driven has enough torque and power to pull the Civic along admirably. Even the smallest 1.8-Liter 16-valve version found on the base DX model produces 140 horsepower. The cream of the crop 2.0-Liter iVTEC version adds one more camshaft to the mix bringing power to 197-horsepower. That 98.5 hp/liter is more than the 7.0L 505-hp Z06 ‘Vette, which only produces 72 hp/liter.
