Splitting the difference between the hardtop Porsche 911 Carrera and the open Carrera Cabriolet, Porsche will soon expand its sports car lineup with the introduction of the 991-generation 2014 Porsche 911 Targa. And despite the tacked-on canvass roof overlay intentionally placed to fool would-be spy photographers, the car captured cold-weather testing here is not a garden-variety 911 Cabriolet, but rather the upcoming Targa-top model, set to hit dealerships early next year.

The internationally renown design masters at Pininfarina, best known for penning some of Ferrari’s most legendary sports cars as well as the design house’s own limited-production models, have done it again. The Pininfarina Sergio, crafted as a celebration of the life of the company’s late founder Sergio Pininfarina, broke cover at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, a two-seat, windshieldless machine the company calls a “barchetta,” Italian for “little boat.”

Hennessey Performance Engineering is best known for taking GM and Mopar sports cars from wild to wilder, so it’s only natural they’d tackle the hot new C7 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Now we’ve received word that Hennessey will soon offer new Corvette owners a twin-turbocharging kit raising output from GM’s newest-gen smallblock V8, the LT1, all the way to 1,000 tire-shredding horsepower.

McLaren Automotive has released official performance data for its new 2014 McLaren P1 plug-in hybrid supercar, and it looks like the lightweight carbon fiber beast might well take home the title of the world’s new quickest production car.
With its mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8, related to the unit found in the McLaren MP4-12C, plus one of the most powerful electric motors ever fitted to a production car, the P1 is more than 23% faster to 186 mph than the sports car maker’s legendary McLaren F1, which once held the title of the world’s fastest production car.

The BMW M Performance division lineup continues to expand for the 2014 model year with the addition of one more heart-stopping model: the 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe. Based on the “four-door coupe” stretched wheelbase 6-Series Gran Coupe, this monster of a sedan has its sights set on the Porsche Panamera Turbo and Maserati Quattroporte.
