2013 Honda Accord: Specs, Pricing and Release DateSeptember 5th, 2012 by Armaan Almeida
The Honda Accord is one of America’s perennial best-sellers among midsize sedans, and has for decades stood for great reliability, fine craftsmanship and family-friendly features. Honda has totally redesigned the Accord for 2013 with the new trimmer, more advanced Accord set to do battle with brand-new midsizes from Ford, Nissan and Toyota among others. Set to go on sale with a release date later this month, the new Accord will be priced from under $24,000.
Let’s talk powertrains. The big news is Honda’s new Earth Dreams 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, now with direct injection technology and paired with a 6-speed manual or low-friction CVT transmission. With 185 horsepower (189 in the new Accord Sport), this engine is good for 27 city/36 highway mpg with the CVT, near the top of the class. Honda’s 3.5-liter V6 carries over but with power boosted to 278 horses. You can even order the V6 with a 6-speed manual transmission on the Accord Coupe, while a 6-speed autobox comes standard on both body styles. Even the V6 is good for up to 21 city/34 highway mpg.
The Accord is 3.5 inches shorter overall with a .9-inch decrease in wheelbase, but both passenger and trunk space actually increase. A handsome interior is highlighted by the brand’s new HondaLink infotainment system, which can read texts and Facebook and Twitter feeds aloud, features full voice control and opens up access to thousands of internet radio stations powered by Aha. A touchscreen interface is supplemented by Honda’s i-MID secondary information display, which puts pertinent information up high on the dash within easy viewing for the driver.
Key safety features include the new LaneWatch Blind Spot Display system, which uses a mirror-mounted camera to show the driver vehicles and other obstructions in the passenger-side blind spot. Honda has also included Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning systems, along with an Expanded View driver’s-side mirror for a better view of the road.
A plug-in hybrid Accord will follow the gas-powered models to market by a few months. Does this latest Accord have what it takes to do battle with a much-improved crop of midsize sedans? You won’t have to wait long to schedule a test drive and find out.
