2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Pounds the Pavement with 662 HPApril 27th, 2012 by Armaan Almeida
Check mate, Chevrolet.
Ford and Shelby just released official specs and info for the 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang, a tire-shredding beast which now holds the title for the most powerful factory Mustang ever. The 2013 model’s upgraded supercharged 5.8-liter is the now the most powerful production V8 in the world, good for 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft. of torque. If you’re counting, there’s more horses in the Shelby’s stable than you’ll find with the Chevy Camaro ZL1 and Corvette ZR1, and even the new 2013 Dodge Viper.
Ford says there’s so much torque on tap that the new muscle car king can run from 0-60 mph in first gear. With no need to shift, 60 mph should come in under 4 seconds, limited by grip much more than power. Nearly as impressive is the Mustang’s 15 city/24 highway/18 combined mpg EPA rating, besting the Camaro ZL1′s highway rating by 5 mpg and sliding under the radar of the nasty gas guzzler tax.
At just $54,995 to start, you won’t find a better horsepower-to-dollar ratio anywhere. The 2013 GT500 is on sale now. Price yours today.
