2012 BMW 3-Series Will Get 36 MPG
February 1st, 2012 by Armaan Almeida
The EPA has just released official numbers for the new-generation 2012 BMW 3-Series sedans, and they are sure to make competitors sweat. The 2012 328i, with its new twin-turbo 2.0-liter four shedding a whole liter over last year’s inline-six, is rated at an outstanding 24 city/36 highway mpg with automatic transmission.
That’s not only better than compact luxury sports sedan competitors from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti and Lexus; it beats the automatic-equipped 132-horsepower 2012 Toyota Corolla‘s 34 highway mpg as well. Fuel savings come thanks to a new 8-speed automatic in addition to the more-frugal engine. A 6-speed manual is also available (23 city/34 highway mpg).
Even the 300-horsepower 335i returns better fuel efficiency than the entry-level engines from German competitors, at 23 city/33 highway mpg with the automatic, though the 6-speed manual will net 20 city/30 highway.
Look for the new 328i and 335i sedans in BMW dealerships this month, priced from $35,795.
