July 12th, 2011 by Armaan Almeida
BMW had a big sales month in June to strengthen its hold on the title of top-selling luxury car company in the United States for the year to date. The German car company’s expanded product lineup is proving a hit with customers, though the 3-Series is still its bread-and-butter model. Here’s how the data shakes out:
- June 2011 U.S. BMW sales rose to 21,637 units, a 13% increase over the same month last year. Mercedes-Benz was just behind at 20,652 units.
- Lexus sales fell to 10,773 units in June, helping strengthen BMW’s quest to knock Lexus off the annual luxury car sales top spot for the first time in 11 years.
- The strongest-selling BMW model was the 3-Series at 9,155 units sold. The 3-Series was the top-selling luxury car in the U.S. for June, beating its next competitor by more than 3,000 units.
- BMW also led global luxury car sales for June at 134,432 units, a gain of 12.3% year-over-year.
