It’s Official: 2011 Ford Fiesta Gets 40 MPG
May 26th, 2010 by Armaan Almeida
It’s tough living up to high expectations—especially when an entire company is counting on your success. Such is the case of the 2011 Ford Fiesta. With tons of hype but few concrete facts up until now, this new-to-the-U.S. market sub-compact seemed to promise the moon and much more.
If it could deliver, then Ford would almost certainly get a leg up on the competition. But if not, the blue oval marque would continue to play second fiddle to the likes of Toyota and Honda.
Well, it looks like the boys and girls at Ford can relax for now as the 2011 Ford Fiesta is shaping up to be just the car it promises to be. The EPA has just finished calculating the Fiesta’s fuel economy, and the numbers are staggering. The official government rating is 29 mpg City/40 mpg Hwy. That beats the Honda Fit by a phenomenal 7 mpg on the highway.
Power also compares favorably to the competition, with the Fiesta making 120 horsepower from its 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine—up three horsepower over the Fit and a whopping 14 horsepower over the Toyota Yaris. We’ll wait and see what else the Fiesta has to offer the sub-compact segment, but so far it’s looking like it will make its debut unchallenged.
